Nutrigenomics
Nutrigenomics is the study of how our genes interact with the foods we eat. It explores how genetic variations influence an individual’s response to nutrients, and how diet can affect gene expression and the way genes are turned on or off in the body.
While traditional nutrition offers general dietary guidelines, nutrigenomics takes a personalised approach, recognising that one person’s ideal diet may differ significantly from another’s based on their genetic makeup.
Through nutrigenomic analysis, we can:
-
Identify genetic predispositions to food sensitivities or intolerances
-
Detect tendencies toward vitamin and mineral deficiencies
-
Understand how efficiently the body metabolises fats, sugars, and other nutrients
-
Explore how nutrition affects processes like inflammation, oxidative stress, detoxification, and energy production
By tailoring diet and lifestyle choices to genetic strengths and vulnerabilities, nutrigenomics supports precision health, helping to prevent or manage chronic conditions, optimise physical and cognitive performance, and promote overall wellbeing.
