September - UCL’s Cardiovascular Genetics group in collaboration with City University have
been awarded a BUPA Foundation grant to carry out a three year project; ‘An RCT to
investigate the effectiveness of a self-management intervention and personalised genetic risk
information to reduce risk of coronary heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes’.
StoreGene will be carrying our the genetic profiling.

November 12th - CVG publish ‘Genotypes at the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) loci for
MMP7, MMP9 and MMP12 are associated with carotoid IMT and presence of plaques’ paper.
May 12th - Professor Steve Humphries, CEO of UCL Genetics Instittue within the UCL
Research Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment (GEE) and BHF Professor of
Cardiovascular Genetics has been recognised for his excellence in medical science with
election to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
